NOAA has contracted EWR Radar Systems to supply three transportable weather radar systems.

Transportable weather systems

Under the contract, EWR will provide one C-band and two X-band E800LP solid-state weather radar systems mounted on purpose-built truck platforms.

The transportable weather radar systems will be used by NOAA, the Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR) and the National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL) to support fire weather and post-wildfire hydrology research.

Doppler weather radar systems

Production of the three transportable Doppler weather radar systems will take place in St. Louis, Missouri. They are scheduled to be delivered by September 2025.

In related news, NOAA recently launched the Salish Sea and Columbia River Operational Forecast System (SSCOFS), which uses an advanced computer model to forecast water level measurements up to three days into the future in the Salish Sea and Columbia River. Click here to read the full story.
