The Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) has implemented a new weather monitoring and forecasting system based on a Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) satellite to bolster its meteorological capabilities and improve the safety of its civil aviation sector.

According to SCAA, the new system marks a significant step toward enhancing the use of modern technology in civil aviation in the country. The organization also states that the modernization of its weather forecasting system places Somalia among the leading African countries adopting this meteorological technology.

Ahmed Hassan, director general of the SCAA, commented, “This change is not just a modernized tool but a strategic achievement for the Somali nation in the areas of climate change adaptation, aviation security/safety and leadership in the civil aviation service on the African continent.”
