Exosens has signed a cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA) with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to develop new atmospheric profiling applications using its Assist II atmospheric sounder.

The agreement, signed in December 2025, will focus on developing new meteorological applications and algorithms to generate atmospheric profiles. Phase one of the partnership will see Assist II deployed at a National Weather Service (NWS) test site in Virginia in early 2026. The instrument will remain on-site for approximately 10 months to validate operational applications and new software functionalities, including TROPoe atmospheric profiling capabilities to be integrated into Assist II.

According to Exosens, the collaboration is intended to expand operational functionality for NOAA, including improved cloud base detection required by atmospheric models. The project will also support development of new gas profiling algorithms targeting carbon monoxide (CO), ozone (O₃), methane (CH₄) and nitric oxides (NO).

The company said the initiative will enhance both cloud base detection and trace gas profiling capabilities as part of broader atmospheric monitoring efforts.

Exosens, headquartered in Québec, Canada, develops electro-optical technologies focused on amplification, detection and imaging systems. The company manufactures detection components and systems including advanced cameras, neutron and gamma detectors, instrument detectors and light intensifier tubes for use in demanding environments.
