Cyprus’s Research & Innovation Foundation (RIF), in collaboration with the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, has launched the ‘AI in Government’ funding program to support “digital transformation in the public sector through the deployment of artificial intelligence”.
Funding early warning systems
The program is addressed to Cypriot businesses and other entities, and is intended to support the development of innovative AI solutions that address specific challenges faced by public authorities.
The first two challenges of the program are issued by the Department of Meteorology and focus on an early warning system for extreme weather events and agrometeorological support for the agricultural sector.
Modernizing operations
The program is part of the government’s initiatives as presented by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, in the 2025 Annual Governance Programme, and constitutes “a key step in leveraging innovation as a driving force for state modernization”, the RIF said in a statement.

In related news, 22 people from 21 countries, including Jordan, Chad and Mauritius, gathered in Shanghai, China, last month for a five-day training course on AI-powered Early Warnings for All. Read the full story here
